Trump is preparing to sign an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education, which provides federal funding for K-12, handles discrimination complaints in the school system, and administers student loans and grants.

This is an assault on our country’s commitment to provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

But Congress has the power to stop this. They are the ones who direct most of the spending, and thanks to the hard-fought wins that narrowed the Republican majority in the House to just a few seats, there’s reason to believe that this can be stopped.

Trump has created new work for the agency by ordering them to draft plans to promote a more “patriotic” agenda while simultaneously saying he wishes to dissolve it.

Look, we know things are scary, but their plan is half-baked at best, and we can’t waste time going down rabbit holes of what could unfold. It’s time to take action.
