John, this is the oath of office I have sworn as a United States Senator:
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
Never did I imagine that I would be defending the Constitution from our very own president on the floor of the United States Senate.
But that’s what I had to do last week.
Senate Democrats took to the floor of the U.S. Senate to protest the nomination of Russ Vought, the author of Project 2025, to be head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) — the office responsible for developing and executing the federal budget.
Donald Trump already caused mass chaos after using the OMB to try and freeze federal funding, and now, he wants this office to be led by an ultra-conservative official who will work to dismantle our government from within.
John, I had to speak out.
We cannot allow Trump to step over limits on his power to erode our democracy.
The President of the United States cannot unilaterally decide on ending funding for or eliminating federal agencies like USAID.
The President of the United States cannot let unelected advisors like Elon Musk access millions of Americans’ private information and data to make decisions about Treasury funds, a power specifically given to Congress in the Constitution.
The President of the United States cannot freeze funding for all federal programs, including bipartisan infrastructure projects, Medicaid, Head Start, and more.
I’ve heard from Democrats, Republicans, and Independents in New Jersey who are worried about the future of our country. They are outraged by the violations of the law and terrified of the implications of losing funding for police, first responders, health care, child care, and more.
We cannot normalize injustice — we have to call it out. That’s what I’m doing every day. John, add your name in support if you’re with me. [[link removed]]

From the moment I wake up in the morning to the moment I lay my head down on my pillow, I am fighting to preserve our fragile democracy.
Nothing will get in my way. No cause is more important.
