![]() We all know that hardworking Kansans are desperate for solutions to the cost of living crisis. So many Kansas families are feeling the squeeze of higher prices at the checkout line, forcing them to drain their savings just to afford everyday essentials. For years, I’ve worked in Congress to lower the cost of groceries, prescription drugs, energy bills, and more. But the President’s recent executive orders threaten that progress by raising costs on families while benefiting large corporations.
Look, President Trump ran on lowering costs for working-class families. But since he’s taken office, he’s done the exact opposite. He eliminated the $2 cap on generic prescription drugs for seniors on Medicare, forcing Kansans to pay more for life-saving medication. His allies have openly admitted their plan to slash Social Security and Medicare, two programs that thousands of Kansans rely on to pay the bills. Cutting them would be nothing less than a cruel handout to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of working families. President Trump has even announced his intention to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, two of our country’s largest trading partners. If Trump goes through with this plan, it would dramatically raise costs for Kansas farmers and families, costing them thousands of dollars extra per year. I’ve made it clear that I’ll work with anyone to bring down the cost of living — and yes, that includes President Trump. But right now, Trump is putting partisan politics over the needs of hardworking families, and it needs to end.
