Friend,
As you’ll recall, President Trump was elected on a promise to bring down the cost of basic goods for working families. On the campaign trail, he beat the drum about the cost of groceries and promised to lower food prices “immediately.”
Unfortunately, his focus has shifted since he took the oath of office. So far, he’s fixated on renaming the Gulf of Mexico and pardoning January 6th insurrections. He’s been too busy rooting out diversity in the federal government and kicking transgender soldiers out of the military to notice that egg prices have skyrocketed to new heights.
In fact, Trump's policies have made matters worse. Even Sen. Mitch McConnell has acknowledged that Trump's tariffs will "drive the cost of everything up." Trump's (now delayed) tariffs on Mexican goods would have an immediate impact on the cost of avocados, tomatoes, and strawberries, as well as countless other fruits, vegetables, and beverages imported across the border. Similarly, the delayed tariff on Canadian goods could increase the cost of meat and grains.
Due to the rising cost of eggs, Waffle House has announced a 50-cent per egg surcharge that will be applied to all menus. Here’s a chart showing that the cost of a dozen eggs is the highest it’s been in a decade. No wonder Trump is desperate to change the subject.

Like every American, I want President Trump to succeed in delivering real progress for America’s economy. So far, I see limited signs of optimism.
