Since Trump took office, each headline and illegal action has been more outrageous than the last.

All this noise is meant to distract us from the real plan: dismantle the core functions of the federal government, then loot and privatize it. This is unacceptable, illegal, and totally out of the ordinary. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary action.

Democrats are in the minority in both the House and the Senate, but Congress is not powerless to slow down this runaway train of destruction – particularly in the Senate. Republicans also need to be pressured to reject these unprecedented actions.

Business as usual should not continue while Musk and Trump wreak havoc on our institutions. Instead of continuing to vote to advance Trump’s cabinet nominees and agreeing to procedural motions put forward by leadership, legislators should stand up and use every tool at their disposal to slow the Musk-Trump assault on core government functions.

What can Congress do?

Senators can use procedural moves to slow down the process, like requiring all senators to be present in order to move business forward.

House members can also use their offices to communicate what is happening to the American people — they can go on television, radio, and social media to convey the clear message that Musk and Trump are destroying basic government functions and attempting to loot and privatize the government. This is a smash and grab operation that must be stopped.

Together, we can stop the dismantling of the government, but we need our members of Congress to fight like it matters. They need to hear from all of us.
