It all started with twelve Black women.

While attending a 1992 conference sponsored by the Illinois Pro-Choice Alliance and Ms. Foundation for Women, these women realized that something was missing from the mainstream white feminist conversations.

Who was talking about the lived experiences of people of color and the impact of interlocking systems of oppression and white supremacy? Who was talking about Black women?

These twelve women left the conference with their own vision. A vision to address and dismantle systemic barriers Black women face in achieving reproductive health and autonomy. Fast forward to June of 1994, Reproductive Justice was shared with the world, creating a framework that includes everything having to do with having a child, not having a child, and raising a child in safe environments with dignity and respect. Your gift to All* Above All today brings us a little bit closer to that world.

Abortion is a small, but critical component of the reproductive justice movement--and their work paved the way for our abortion justice work today. They knew it then, and we know it now… All our work is intersectional.

This Black History Month, we choose to honor the foremothers of reproductive justice--to speak the names you may not have heard before, but echo across the movement, across everything we do at All* Above All. And you can honor their work with a gift today.

Systemic barriers to abortion care have long impacted Black, Brown, and queer communities. With the fall of Roe and the rise of Trump, these obstacles have only multiplied. Thankfully, we're standing on a seriously strong foundation these twelve Black women built.

Right now, we've got to take care of each other.

In solidarity,
Nourbese Flint
President

P.S. If you're itching to do something to fight for reproductive and abortion justice a donation to All* Above All is one meaningful avenue. We also just released a new Abortion Justice Playbook, a comprehensive guide to dismantling systemic barriers to abortion care and advancing equity for marginalized communities.
