John,

Just over a year ago, we announced a first-of-its-kind initiative to create healthcare-focused high schools that will graduate students directly into jobs with family-sustaining wages.

We wanted you to see how it's going so far.

In four short videos, we highlighted the progress that's been made in four communities where healthcare-focused high schools have launched: Houston, Charlotte, Boston, and Dallas.

HOUSTON, TX

"After I graduate high school, I'm going to go work at the hospital and help people as a nurse."

Each school offers robust academic programming, along with specialized healthcare classes and work-based learning at a partner health system. Students can earn industry-valued credentials and certifications, and move directly into jobs with the partner health systems as soon as they graduate.

In addition to starting careers right out of high school, these students will also fill a critical need: The U.S. healthcare industry has an estimated two million job openings today, and two million more openings are expected by 2031.

Healthcare high schools are a promising model for other high-growth, high-demand industries that need skilled workers in roles that don't require four-year college degrees. Learn more about the initiative, and the communities where the schools are making a difference:
