In this week’s Weekly Minute, I want to share something critical that’s happening right now — and why it matters to you.
Last week, hardworking Americans gathered at the Georgia State Capitol to support a plan that tackles one of the biggest challenges facing job creators and small businesses today…
A broken legal system that’s driving up costs and putting jobs at risk.
Let me explain why this fight is so important:
Right now, Georgia’s legal climate is broken.
❌ Small businesses are being forced to pay out millions just to avoid frivolous lawsuits.
❌ Hospitals are struggling, doctors are leaving, and healthcare costs are skyrocketing.
❌ Essential businesses — from grocery stores to childcare centers — are shutting down because they can’t keep up with rising costs.
And hardworking Americans like YOU are paying the price.
Want to know the solution?
We need tort reform.
As a small business owner for more than 35 years, I know that bad policies hurt the people who keep our economy strong.
That’s why we’ve spent months listening to job creators and entrepreneurs and working on a bold, common-sense plan to fix this problem.
The legislation we introduced here in Georgia will:
✅ Protect businesses from excessive lawsuits — holding them accountable only for what they can directly control.
✅ End phantom medical damages that inflate lawsuit payouts and drive up costs.
✅ Ensure fair trials by preventing juries from being misled by arbitrary pain and suffering claims.
✅ Stop abusive legal tactics that allow cases to be moved after trials have already begun.
✅ Bring transparency to third-party litigation funding that fuels lawsuit abuse.
If we pass this legislation in Georgia… We can lead the way for common sense reforms that protect jobs and small businesses NATIONWIDE.
This is about protecting your future, and I hope you will join me as we work to keep Georgia, and our country, a place where small businesses can thrive, jobs remain strong, and costs stay low.
More than 35 years ago, I started my first business with nothing but a pickup truck and a shovel.
Since taking office as Governor of Georgia in 2019, I’ve put hardworking Georgians and their families first!
We’ve championed legislation to cut taxes for working families, crack down on crime, end human trafficking, reform foster care and adoption, and support our students and educators.
When Georgia became the first state to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic, I made sure we protected both lives and livelihoods. As a result, we’ve seen historic economic investment, and we’ve continued to lead the way in creating opportunities at every corner of the state.
And we’re not stopping there!
Marty, the girls, and I are working hard to ensure Georgia’s best days are ahead of us.
