Jack,
Picture this: A wild horse, the embodiment of American freedom, running for her life as a helicopter roars overhead, chasing her. Terrified, her foal struggles to keep up until his hooves literally fall off from exertion. During helicopter roundups, families are torn apart forever. It’s not uncommon for stallions to break their legs or their necks in desperate attempts to escape.
This is what the U.S. government calls "management." But it’s not management — it’s cruelty.
As a result, there are more wild horses in holding facilities than living free in the wild.
This is unacceptable, Jack. Every year, thousands are funneled into these holding facilities, and hundreds vanish into the slaughter pipeline. And taxpayers like you and me are footing the $150 million bill for this inhumanity year after year — despite proof that there’s a better way to conserve America’s federally protected wild herds.
Now, some good news: National Horse Protection Day is right around the corner. On this critical day, American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) is leading a national day of action and calling for a halt to the helicopters.
Jack, wouldn’t you agree that it’s time for proven, humane in-the-wild solutions to take priority over cruel, costly helicopter roundups? On March 1, National Horse Protection Day, we’re taking a stand to keep wild horses where they belong — in the wild. Will you join us?
Here are three ways you can join us and make your voice heard:
✅ Sign the petition to end cruel helicopter roundups.
✅ Join our Day of Action on March 1st and use #HaltTheHelicopters and #NationalHorseProtectionDay on social media to raise awareness.
✅ Contact lawmakers to support humane management of America’s wild herds.
Together, we can protect wild horses and preserve their rightful place on our public lands.
Thank you for standing with the wild ones,
Amelia Perrin
