Dear Friend,
Last week, we completed a productive session in the House of Representatives. I wanted to provide a brief update on the work I am doing to represent my district and advance commonsense policies in Congress.
Key Bills:
H.R. 27: HALT Fentanyl Act:
Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18-45. In 2022, drug overdoses claimed the lives of over 100,000 Americans, 67 percent of which involved opioids like fentanyl. Synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, can be deadly in small doses and are up to 50 times more potent than heroin. Here in Maryland, Baltimore has been especially impacted, with nearly 1000 lives lost yearly to this deadly crisis.
Last week, Congress passed H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances (FRS) in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, guarantees law enforcement has the resources needed to keep these drugs off the street, and allows for further research of fentanyl-related substances. As the Trump administration works to stop fentanyl from coming through our borders, Congress is taking action to give law enforcement the support they need.

H.R.776: Nutria Eradication and Control Reauthorization Act of 2025:
Nutria were introduced to the Delmarva peninsula in Maryland from South America in the 1940s for the fur market. Since then, this invasive species destroyed thousands of acres of wetland in our local Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and around the Chesapeake Bay. While I was pleased to work with our local officials in my district to eradicate the nutria in Maryland, I voted in favor of the Nutria Eradication and Control Reauthorization Act of 2025 which reauthorizes the Nutria Eradication and Control Act of 2003 through 2030. I strongly support this effort so the nutria can continue to be eradicated in other states across the country.
Protecting American Energy Production Act:
American energy production through fracking leads to lower energy prices for families, boosts economic growth, and improves quality of life for Americans.
Last week, the House passed H.R. 26, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, which prevents a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to protect American energy production. Despite the large amount of American energy it produces, fracking is under threat, as Democrats continue to attack American energy production regardless of the energy crisis their policies have caused.
We must protect American energy production from Democrats’ radical anti-American energy agenda.
