TRUMP Act Update Last month, the Florida Legislature passed bill HB1-B,  the “Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Immigration Policy Act,” also known as the TRUMP Act. Indian River County's Senator Erin Grall voting to pass the bill out of committee but then voted against the bill on the Senate floor. Representative Robert Brackett voted for the TRUMP Act in the House. The TRUMP Act creates an Office of State Immigration Enforcement within the Division of Law Enforcement under the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This bill would also repeal a provision that allows children of undocumented immigrants whose parents brought them to the U.S. as children to get in-state tuition.

Due to Florida’s ongoing Republican civil war, the bill has yet to be sent to the governor’s office to be signed or vetoed.

Anti-immigrant policies will hurt Florida’s economy, as key industries like agriculture, tourism, and construction rely on migrant workers. Despite this, Republicans in Tallahassee have pushed a rushed immigration bill that would divert millions from community funding to enforcement, including $500 million for police to target migrants and carry out mass deportations. Immigration is a federal issue, and while reforms are needed, Florida lawmakers should focus on real solutions that protect our economy, keep families together, and create legal pathways to citizenship for those who have contributed for decades.

URGENT UPDATE on Patel Confirmation Hearing Thursday at 9:00 a.m. EST, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a meeting to consider the nomination of Kashyap Patel, of Nevada, to be Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice. WATCH HERE

Trump has nominated Kash Patel as FBI Director to turn the FBI into his personal tool for political revenge. Patel has openly stated he'd use the FBI to target Trump's perceived enemies like lawmakers and journalists. Instead of focusing on protecting Americans and upholding the rule of law, Patel would abuse the FBI's power to settle Trump's political scores.

TAKE ACTION by Emailing: Tell our Senators to save the FBI & block Kash Patel’s confirmation. Use this form to send an email to our Senators in just one minute - to urge them to stop the Trump/Musk’s FBI purge and vote NO on Kash Patel’s confirmation to keep your children and families safe.

Our Senator Ashley Moody serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee and she needs to hear from you ASAP before Thursday's committee hearing.

TAKE ACTION by Calling: Call Senator Moody's DC office at 202-224-3041 Say..

"Hello I am a Florida constituent calling from zip code _______. My name is _______ and I'm calling today because I’m concerned about Donald Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel for FBI Director.

Unlike previous FBI Directors, Patel is woefully unqualified. He has no senior law enforcement experience and bipartisan leaders - including former federal law enforcement officials - have publicly opposed his nomination.

Instead of focusing on protecting Americans and upholding the rule of law, Patel would abuse the FBI's power to settle Trump's political scores.

I'm calling on my Senator to keep America safe by rejecting Kash Patel’s nomination to become the Director of the FBI.

Can I count on the Senator to oppose Kash Patel's nomination in the Judiciary Committee?"

ALERT! Our Congressman is doing the bidding of the US arms industry by engaging in a full assault on public safety. Haridopolos has cosponsored bills to both abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and to repeal the National Firearms Act

The National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 imposed taxes, registration requirements, and restrictions on certain firearms, including short-barreled rifles and shotguns, machine guns, and silencers, with the primary goal of discouraging their circulation due to their association with violent crime.

The ATF kept President Trump and 76,000+ other people safe at the #SuperBowlLIX Sunday night. His support of this bill does not reflect the will of his constituents.

TAKE ACTION: Call Rep. Haridopolos' DC office at (202) 225-3671 and urge him to rescind his support of both HR221 to abilish the ATF and HR335 to repeal the NFA.

Last week, it was reported President Trump is considering an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education. Trump's choice to take away public educations from students in order to give tax breaks to the very rich would have a devastating impact on schools and students. Cutting the Department of Education would eliminate programs critical to student success in school and life. The local impact could mean teachers losing their jobs, less support for critical programs and reduced funding for school repairs.

House Republicans have also taken action by introducing bill HR899 to terminate the Departments of Education. Our Congressman, Mike Haridopolos has not yet joined the bill's 30 cosponsors.

TAKE ACTION: Urge your Congressman to withhold his support for HR899 "To terminate the Department of Education."

Call Rep. Haridopolos' DC office at (202) 225-3671 and read the following script:

"Hi my name is _______ and I am a constituent calling from zip code ________. I'm calling to urge my Congressman to withhold his support for the bill to devastate our local public schools and eliminate critical student programs. The bill is HR899 to terminate the Department of Education.

Will my Congressman be declining to cosponsor this bill?"
Previously Shared Calls to Action
Earlier this month, the Farmworker Association of Florida spoke about the plight of the American farmworker. One highlighted concern was the lack of water, shade and access to bathrooms and the desire for safer working standards for the people that feed our community and our children.

TAKE ACTION: Call Representative Brackett and urge him to cosponsor the bill to protect Florida's farmworks from heat illness. Call Brackett's Tallahassee office at (850) 717-5034 and read the following script:

Hello my name is __________ and I live in zip code __________. I am a constituent calling to urge Representative Brackett to respond to the concerned farmworkers that spoke during the Indian River Delegation meeting by cosponsoring HB 35. This is the Heat Illness Protection bill. Can I count on my Representative to support this bill?
Republicans have introduced a state concealed carry reciprocity bill in both the House and the Senate. This bill would infringe on states' rights to set their own gun laws and override all state large capacity magazine bans. Our Congressman Mike Haridopolos has already cosponsored the bill in the House. In the Senate, Rick Scott has cosponsored the bill but Senator Ashley Moody has not. She needs to hear from you.

TAKE ACTION: Call Senator Moody's D.C. office at 202-224-3041 and use the following script:

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______. I’m deeply concerned by the bill S.65 which tramples on states' rights to set their own gun laws. Please let my Senator know that, as a Florida constituent, I'm urging her to withhold her support for this bill. Again, it is S.65.

House Republicans have introduced a bill to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This Act saves older Americans billions in health care costs. As of now, our House Representative Mike Haridopolos has not yet cosponsored this bill. He needs to hear from us!

TAKE ACTION: Call Rep. Haridopolos' DC office at (202) 225-3671 and read the following script:

My name is ______. I live in zip code ________ and I urge my Representative to withhold support for HR191. This bill would significantly increase costs for millions of Americans. HR191 would overturn the cap on insulin costs and the $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket precrription drug copayments for millions of older Americans. Floridians simply cannot afford for this bil to pass or for our Congressman to support this bill. Can I count on the Congressman to vote NO on HR191?
Republicans, led by Mike Johnson, are trying to condition aid to CA during their moment of need.

TAKE ACTION: Call our Republican House member, Mike Haridopolos and Speaker Johnson and tell them to stop threatening to withhold aid to CA!
.
Mike Johnson’s office is ‭(202) 225-4000‬
Rep. Haridopolos office is (202) 225-3671

Say:

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______. I’m deeply concerned and angered by Republican threats to hold aid for California hostage to a debt ceiling increase. It is immoral and repugnant. California is literally subsidizing the rest of the United States, red states in particular, through the federal budget. How dare anyone withhold funds from them in their moment of need, or tie that aid to anything? Give California what they need, no strings attached. Thank you.
Our Congressman, Mike Haripololos, has joined 16 other House Republicans in cosponsoring H.R. 361, a bill to authorize the President to seek to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States. 🤦

This bill was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee chaired by our neighboring district's Congressman, Brian Mast. It's NOT POPULAR. Mast has not yet consposored this bill himself and there was even a Florida Republican that rescinded his support. The path for this bill remains unclear as we wait to see if a similar bill is filed in the Senate. In the meantime, we will urge the House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair to withhold from hearing this bill in his committee and stop it from ever seeing the House floor.

TAKE ACTION: Call Chairman Mast at his Foreign Affairs Committee office at (202) 226-8467 and say the following...

"Hello my name is ________ and I am calling from Florida to urge Chairman Mast to refrain from marking up the ridiculous bill to authorize President Trump to acquire Greenland. The Foreign Affairs Committee should not waste time or resources by holding a hearing on this bill. It is HR 361"
