EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT
Deyonne Jackson
Deyonne Jackson
Kindergarten/1st Grade Teacher
Woods Learning Center, NCSD #1
Deyonne is one of the most naturally talented educators I know and is constantly looking for ways to refine her craft to meet the ever-changing needs of her students. For example, when our students were struggling with behaviors, she became instrumental in bringing Conscious Discipline to our building. She has gone on to train others with this practice. Deyonne is incredibly gifted at connecting with students, colleagues, and parents.
Woods Learning Center is also unique in that we are a Teacher-Powered school. Our school does not have a principal and thus, each teacher takes one portion of the role of a principal and functions in that role. To better serve our building, Deyonne became an Ambassador to the international Teacher-Powered Network, where she keeps us current and provides collaboration opportunities with schools that function in a similar way. She has also served in every capacity of a principal—from working on our school improvement plan to running buildings and grounds—she truly is a jack of all trades.
“Deyonne exemplifies being a life-long learner. She is an outstanding educator who always goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her students. She is also an exceptional leader, not only in our building but also at the collegiate level, where she instructs aspiring educators at Casper College. Anyone who has worked alongside Deyonne Jackson considers it one of their greatest blessings.”
- Sarah Larsen, Student Support Teacher, Woods Learning Center, NCSD #1
