Join ISI and Sean McMeekin for a book event on March 19th
Communism went from a utopian ideal to the governing doctrine of some of history’s most authoritarian regimes. Its trajectory has fundamentally changed global politics.

How did this happen?

In his insightful new book, historian Sean McMeekin traces communism's evolution from Karl Marx's writings through the Soviet Union under leaders like Lenin and Stalin, to Mao Zedong's ascent in China, and the resurgence of communist or socialist-inspired policies in the 21st century.

To Overthrow the World: The Rise and Fall and Rise of Communism is a deep examination of the human cost of implementing communist ideologies—revealing the dissonance between the utopian promises of communism and the horrific realities that unfolded in practice.

Join us for an unforgettable evening as Sean McMeekin receives the 2025 Conservative Book of the Year Award.

Join us on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at our Linda L. Bean Center in Wilmington, Delaware. The event will begin with a cocktail hour at 6 PM, followed by the award ceremony at 7 PM. Sean McMeekin will give his remarks, followed by a Q&A session.
