Dear Health Advocates,
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in last Thursday’s Medicaid Day of Action! Hundreds of advocates sent emails through Families USA’s form urging Congress to protect Medicaid and not cut the program, engaged with social media posts and used the call-in line to get in touch with their Members of Congress.
We saw dozens of state and national organizations share their own calls to action, social media and letter-writing forms, multiplying this impact across the health care advocacy network. Our email writing campaign is still live (also included in "Action Items," below).
This day, along with the consistent drumbeat we are collectively keeping up, has had an impact: on the heels of the Day of Action, all Senate Democrats signed onto a letter urging their Republican colleagues to prevent Medicaid cuts that would pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. In addition, we heard from key Committee staff that calls, emails and actions are working to keep Medicaid in the conversation.
Medicaid Theme Weeks
Building on this momentum, Families USA will be pioneering theme weeks related to Medicaid defense. This week, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we are featuring #LoveandCherishMedicaid week, social media content, template letters to the editor, and more. We encourage our partners to share the love for Medicaid!
There will be more opportunities in the coming weeks centered on several fact sheets we are releasing on how to defend and protect Medicaid, including topics such as federal matching for states (FMAP), work requirements, provider taxes and rural health – all with accompanying communications tools.
You can find more on all of this below, along with this week’s new opportunities and resources:
