Hi John.
I know good ideas can come from Republicans and Democrats. That includes cutting wasteful spending. Both parties should work to lower our debt.
But this requires pragmatism – not extremism. An unelected billionaire shouldn't be able to possibly access Kansans' private information. Or be able to possibly interrupt Social Security and Medicare payments that Kansans depend on to live safe, healthy lives.
I know this issue can raise strong feelings, and many have a variety of views on how to address our budget. As your representative, it's important for me to always listen to you, even if we don't agree on every issue. Please click below to begin taking my survey >>
How do you think the United States government should address the nation’s budget?
• Bipartisan compromise by the people’s representatives in the House and Senate.
• Entrusting Elon Musk.
• Other / I don’t know.

As you may know, the president has appointed Elon Musk to review federal operations. As part of that effort, he and his aides gained access to the powerful federal payment system.
Mr. Musk is an unelected billionaire. I'm very concerned his access to the federal payment system could let him see Kansans' private information. I'm also concerned this could lead to interruptions of Social Security and Medicare payments.
I’m committed to cutting wasteful spending and working with both parties to protect taxpayers. That’s why I’ve supported legislation like the bipartisan Identifying and Eliminating Wasteful Programs Act.
This bill requires federal agencies to find wasteful or duplicative programs for elimination. Then the agencies must send a list of those wasteful programs to congress and make the list publicly available. Finally, the agencies then have to work with congress to help eliminate or consolidate the programs.
These decisions should be made by the people’s representatives in a bipartisan way – not by an unelected billionaire. The federal budget shouldn't balanced on the backs of the middle class.
