Donald Trump has been in office for just three weeks and already we’re seeing relentless attacks on our communities.

He’s unleashed billionaire Elon Musk on the federal payments system, which controls $6 trillion of our tax dollars, including Social Security checks, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP nutrition benefits, tax refunds, and more.

He’s begun a mass deportation plan, arresting thousands of undocumented people who have no criminal records―violating people’s constitutional right to due process and sending thousands to the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

Trump’s newly confirmed Director of the Office of Management and Budget has shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which is meant to protect us from greedy corporations.

And, Trump and his allies in Congress are seeking to abolish the Department of Education, which would undo protections for women, LGBTQ+ students, and students with disabilities, effectively gutting funding for public education―turning education from a right for all to a privilege for the wealthy.

I want you to know that I am with you in this fight as we resist a lawless administration that is systematically dismantling our democracy.

While the Trump administration looks to cut trillions of dollars from critical programs and services to pay for his mass deportation scheme and his tax scam for the rich and corporations, he and congressional Republicans continue to find money for the Pentagon, including seeking hundreds of billions of dollars of supplemental funding as Trump uses the military to assist ICE in their immigrant raids and deportations.

The dismantling of federal agencies without congressional approval is illegal, and yet Trump and his henchmen are working around the clock in a clear violation of the Constitution.

Judges have attempted to stop some of the administration’s most blatantly illegal actions such as ending birthright citizenship, placing USAID employees on leave, giving Musk’s DOGE access to sensitive Treasury Department data, even transferring incarcerated transgender women to male prisons. But Trump’s Vice President, JD Vance, said over the weekend, “judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power.”

We are headed toward a constitutional crisis where the executive branch does not obey orders from the judiciary branch or acknowledge Congress’ power to allocate taxpayer funds to our communities.
