As Senior Vice President of Movement Building at Everytown for Gun Safety and executive director of Moms Demand Action, I have the immense privilege of working with our two biggest volunteer arms—Students Demand Action and Moms Demand Action—to enact meaningful change in our communities.
With more than 850 Students Demand Action groups across the country, our students are leading by example. In 2024 alone, they created 128 new groups, helped pass 107 gun safety policies and defeated 254 gun lobby-backed bills, made over 12 million voter contacts for Gun Sense Candidates with Moms Demand Action, registered thousands of new voters, and made their voices heard.
At the same time, we have thousands of Moms Demand Action volunteers diligently organizing at the grassroots level.
School gun violence is a stark reality for many in our country, but it must not define our future. We can make the change to secure a future free of gun violence, but it's going to take every single one of us—from volunteers to donors—to make that change.
