Putting Minnesotans First

Senate Republicans recently rolled out our agenda for this session, and my colleagues and I will focus on putting “Minnesotans First.” In the coming months, we will introduce legislation that addresses the following key priorities:

  1. Helping Minnesotans with the high cost of living
  2. Reining in runaway wasteful spending and stopping tax increases
  3. Holding government accountable for waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer resources
  4. Keeping our communities safe
  5. Putting students first, strengthening families, and protecting children

At our agenda press conference, I spoke about how we must dedicate ourselves to making state government work better for you and ensuring your tax dollars are spent wisely. I invite you to listen to my comments and let me know what you think!

Rasmusson chairs Human Services hearing on waste, fraud and abuse

As U.S. Attorney Andy Luger stated back in December, “Minnesota has a fraud problem.”

That is why I led a hearing to address the troubling pattern of waste, fraud, and abuse within the Minnesota Department of Human Services. The committee focused on understanding ways for the agency to strengthen oversight, ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and guarantee state services only reach their intended purposes.

I invite you to read more about this hearing!

Rasmusson moves to expel Mitchell, Senate Democrats block effort with procedural vote

On Monday, Jan. 27, I brought a motion to expel Senator Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) from the legislative body. Unfortunately, it failed on a procedural vote in which every Democrat voted to rule it out of order and protect Mitchell.

As you will recall, Mitchell was arrested at her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes last spring and later charged with first-degree felony burglary. Her trial was scheduled to begin this week, on January 27, but she requested a delay until the 2025 legislative session adjourns.

I believe that Senator Mitchell’s conduct fails to meet the ethical standards we expect from senators. We should not allow her to use her position to shield herself from criminal consequences. Senate Rule 56.1 mandates that members adhere to the highest ethical standards. Felony burglary and terrorizing an elderly family member are severe violations of those standards.

I invite you to listen to my floor motion to expel Mitchell and let me know what you think!

In case you missed it!

I recently appeared on "Hot Talk with the Ox" to discuss my motion to expel Senator Nicole Mitchell from the Minnesota Senate. I invite you to listen to our conversation, where I explain how she is using her position to shield herself from criminal consequences.

I was recently a guest on the American Experiment Podcast! We dive into the shifting dynamics of post-power-sharing in the Senate, the growing issue of fraud in Minnesota, and ways we can better support our students here in the state. I invite you to listen to our discussion and share your thoughts!

Constituents and the Capitol

Meeting with members of our community is always a highlight of my day!  I was recently inspired by a group of Hillcrest Academy students who visited the Capitol for the 2025 MCCL March for Life.

Thank you for standing up for the sanctity of life!
