Since the beginning of this campaign, I’ve been honored by the support that my team and I have received from people all across central and western New York -- folks who know that flipping this district is something we can achieve together so we can start to enact real change.
I recently read a letter to the editor from Jim Brady, a supporter in Owasco, who describes a medical issue that left him with a massive hospital bill. While Jim was fortunate enough to have medical coverage, his experience navigating our broken health system left him unable to shake the thought: what if he didn’t have coverage?
It is that fear, the possibility of having health coverage taken away when one most needs it, that has led him to our campaign. Our campaign to bring affordable healthcare to all New Yorkers. Our campaign to hold John Katko -- and Donald Trump -- accountable for their lies.
Here's Jim in his own words:
"Three years after the president promised us 'great medical coverage' the nation as a whole is weaker, sicker and poorer.… Now Mr. Katko has endorsed this bumbling president for reelection! This cannot stand.
I support Dana Balter for congress. Dana has a well-articulated plan for moving us forward toward a time when people who are sick can actually see a doctor. If you are like me and want us to finally make some progress on health care, you can vote for Dana on June 23 and again on Nov. 3."
These words remind me of why I decided to run for Congress in the first place: to hold those in power accountable and build a more equitable healthcare system for all of us.
I’m going to keep fighting as long and as hard as I can to ensure that we succeed in our mission, and that every central and western New Yorker’s voice is heard -- from letters to the editor to the ballot box.
