Team, it’s Janet Mills, Governor of Maine, here to share my story.

When I recently visited the White House, President Donald Trump chose to single me out in a room full of governors from both parties and threatened to unilaterally withhold federal funding from Maine school children unless we fall in line with his personal demands. When I stood my ground, he claimed he was “the law,” never mind Congress or the states.

I told him we’d see him in court.

I – along with my fellow Democratic governors across the country – will not be intimidated by the President’s threats. We refuse to be bullied. Instead, we will remain the last line of defense – standing on the frontlines in the fight for democracy, and pushing back against attacks on our freedoms every single day. But we can’t do it without your support.

Please, will you add your name to stand with me and other Democratic governors across the country who are defending your rights and freedoms and stopping the Republican trifecta’s attacks on our fundamental rights in states across the country?

Team, my fellow Democratic governors and I went to the White House hoping for a constructive discussion on lowering costs, strengthening our response to natural disasters, and ensuring we can continue delivering for the people of our states. Unfortunately, Donald Trump had other ideas.

He chose to point fingers, launch personal attacks, threaten me and my state, and spread unfounded conspiracy theories. He campaigned on lowering the cost of essentials like eggs, bread, heating, housing, and cars. Yet, just seven weeks in, he's already threatening to weaponize the federal budget to punish his enemies.

We aren’t backing down. We are doing everything we can to protect our states and our fundamental rights. Right now, our future is being threatened by a wannabe strongman in the White House who is playing games with federal funding. Democratic governors like myself will not allow that – but we need to know you’re with us.

Team, the work to push back against Trump’s dangerous agenda is happening in the states. Democratic governors are our last line of defense, and our best chance for progress. Will you add your name to stand with me and Democratic governors across the country who are protecting our hard-fought progress as Trump continues his stampede on our rights? There’s never been a more important moment to lean in and engage than right now.
