Hey John,
Rescuing individuals from some of the cruelest industries in the world is at the core of the animal rights movement. Join us this Saturday, August 24th at Meetup: The Power and Potential of Open Rescue to learn more. Meetups happen every Saturday at 11:00am at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center. Come mingle with fellow earthlings who care about animals and enjoy an amazing vegan brunch while you're at it!
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Wednesday, August 21st, 8:00am: Make Fur History: Rally and Lobbying in Sacramento - We need YOU in Sacramento to show support for the California fur ban! The California Fur Ban passed two votes in the California Senate! Soon this bill will face a test before the Appropriations Committee. We will be rallying along with the California Fur Ban Coalition in Sacramento to show the Senators how much support this bill has. Meet at the California State Capitol. Exact location TBA
- Saturday, August 24th, 12:30pm: Whole Foods Is Speciesist: March and Protest - Since 2015, DxE has been investigating and rescuing individuals from Whole Foods "farms." For doing so, activists are now facing felony charges but we are not going to stop. Nonhuman animals are not commodities to exploit, they are individuals and they have the right to be rescued from situations of exploitation and distress. Come and take action with us on the World Day to End Speciesism! Please meet on Sproul Plaza outside MLK Student Union.
- Sunday, August 25th-26th, 10:00am: Caltopia Outreach - UC Berkeley's Caltopia on August 25 and August 26 are the best days of the year to reach a key Berkeley demographic - Cal students! Join us at Sproul Plaza where we will be talking to students, hanging out with companion animals, handing out vegan snacks, and showing VR of what goes on inside of an animal agriculture facility.
- Sunday, August 25th, 2:00pm: Pigeon First Aid - August - Every day there are hundreds of birds throughout the city of San Francisco who have strings and hair wrapped around their toes so tightly that it causes immense pain. Eventually their toes lose circulation, become amputated or develop severe infections. We can help our bird friends by removing the string before it gets too serious, providing medical care, and releasing them back to their flocks! We will be meeting in front of The Strand Theater in SF, at 1127 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94103.
