I'm endorsing Joe Biden today because, just a few hours ago in Philadelphia, he spoke about his plans to reduce police violence. They include:

• Passing a federal ban on chokeholds by police
• Stopping the transfer of military gear to local police
• Setting up national use-of-force best practices
• Holding officers accountable for misconduct

These policies are important first steps that we need to take to protect our communities, particularly communities of color.

But it's not enough to propose good policies. We also need to elect candidates — at every level, from the President of the United States to District Attorneys and Sheriffs — who will make those policies a reality.
