Trump’s reckless trade war is alienating America’s closest allies and hitting working families with higher costs. He has imposed 25% tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, 10% tariffs on all imports from China, and raised tariffs on steel and aluminum to 25% for all countries—a dramatic escalation from previous targeted tariffs.
The result? Prices on everyday goods—groceries, cars, and appliances—are rising, and experts warn the average household will pay over $1,200 more per year. Small businesses and manufacturers are already feeling the squeeze, with one industry leader warning that layoffs could start “within weeks.”
But this isn’t just an economic disaster—it’s a diplomatic crisis. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the tariffs as “unjustified” and vowed, “Europe will not sit idly by while the U.S. attacks free and fair trade.” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz warned, “If the U.S. leaves us no choice, we will respond as one.” Even Canada—our closest ally—has accused Trump of launching a “trade war against its friends” and is retaliating with billions in tariffs on U.S. goods.
Instead of uniting with our allies against real threats, Trump is pushing them away—while adversaries like Russia and China take advantage of the chaos. Democrats are working to block these reckless tariffs, but Republican leaders refuse to act. If this continues, the damage will be irreversible—American consumers will keep paying more, small businesses will be forced to cut jobs, and our global leadership will erode even further.
We cannot afford to let Trump continue sabotaging our economy and isolating our allies. We must fight back, stand with our international partners, and demand leadership that strengthens—not weakens—America’s standing in the world.
