Democrat,
Yesterday, our state took an important step forward in averting an oncoming disaster that could seriously impact all of our communities when an Assembly committee voted to approve Governor Murphy’s COVID-19 Emergency Borrowing Plan. At the committee hearing, organizations from across the political spectrum announced their support for the plan, which will help state, county, and local governments avoid laying off thousands of essential workers.
The fight isn’t over though. We need you to add your voice to the many others who are supporting Governor Murphy’s plan to make sure it’s approved. Sign our petition to help save these jobs and protect our communities. [[link removed]]
Yesterday’s committee hearing laid out the stakes and what could happen if the Governor’s plan is not adopted. Thousands of the same public workers who have helped keep us safe during the COVID-19 crisis, from police officers to EMTs to teachers to public health workers, would lose their jobs. The ripple effect on our economy would be severe, with thousands of additional families being out of work and forced to go on unemployment and essential government services being cut at the worst possible time. Perhaps worst of all, failing to get our fiscal house in order would delay New Jersey’s recovery from this crisis, and we cannot afford to fail. This is a time to dig out of the hole, not to make the hole deeper.
To put things into perspective, here is the list of leaders and organizations that publicly support Governor Murphy’s plan:
Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin - NJEA- NJ AFL-CIO - New Jersey Citizen Action - Ocean Health Initiatives - State Troopers Fraternal Association - NJ Policy Perspective - Anti-Poverty Network of NJ - AICUNJ - NJBIA - Lutherans Engaging in Advocacy Ministry NJ - United Service Workers Local 755 - The International Union of Journeymen and Allied Trades - Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce - LUPE - Boys and Girls Clubs of NJ- Teach NJ Coalition - Rutgers Council of AAUP Chapter - NJ Black Issue Convention - Save Our Schools NJ Organizing Community - Environment New Jersey - Latino Action Network - Hudson County Central Labor Council - IFPTE Local 194 - ACNJ - Housing and Community Development Network of NJ - NJ League of Conservation Voters - NJ Latino Coalition of Pastors and Ministers - NJ State FOP - IAFF - UFCW - PBA Local 105 - Rutgers University - NJ State FMBA - The ARC of NJ
And here is the list of organizations that publicly oppose the Governor’s plan:
New Jersey State Republican Party
I don’t think there’s any way to make things more clear than that. Add your name now to tell the State Legislature to put Governor Murphy's plan up for a vote. [[link removed]]
