Dear, Reader

With just two episodes to go, we are now approaching the dramatic conclusion of InSight Crime’s first ever investigative podcast series, “The Shadow of El Dorado ([link removed]) ,” – a great time to catchup.

Throughout the series, we explore the issue of blood gold by telling the incredible story of Segovia, a town in northwestern Colombia. In the first five episodes, we have ventured deep into Segovia’s wildcat mines to meet the men and women scraping a living from the town’s buried riches. We have uncovered the decades-long mystery at the heart of the town’s evolution into a mafia stronghold, and exposed the political and business elites that have grown rich off its decline, including some of the biggest names in Colombian politics and global mining. And we have explored the connections between mining and armed groups. We have also published some great additional content, with videos, photo galleries, graphics, and case files allowing you to dive deep into the story.

This Thursday, we will be publishing Episode 6, which tells the story of the conflict between Segovia’s informal miners and the Colombian multinational, Gran Colombia Gold.
