Friends, I don’t have all the words for what folks are feeling and going through right now. I sure don’t have all the answers. I don’t know if anyone ever does in times like these.

This is a dangerous and difficult time. I trust that governors and mayors all around this country will continue to take the steps necessary In the days ahead to protect human life and property. But if there is one thing we’ve learned in the last week, it is that for millions of Americans, George Floyd’s murder was a tipping point. That enough is enough. They are demanding of all of us that the violence against unarmed African Americans must end.

They are demanding that the inequities of health care and economic justice which this pandemic has sadly highlighted must be corrected.

Most of all, they are telling America to live up to its promise.

The "they" who are demanding action has to be all of us. Americans of every gender, race, and political affiliation who know the difference between right and wrong and are coming together for change.

I spoke for a few minutes in the shadow of the 16th Street Baptist Church with some more of my thoughts on what we must do. I hope you'll take a few minutes and watch – and feel free to send me a tweet or reply with your thoughts.

I know these words are not enough. But I hope you can see what I saw in Kelly Ingram Park. I saw over a thousand people who were hurting and looking for answers coming together, peacefully, as one.

We must do more. We must listen and we must act.
