VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump goes full dictator in dangerously unhinged speech
In a watershed moment for American fascism, Trump gave a speech at the Department of Justice in which he declared that it is "illegal" for journalists to negatively report on him. “The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and MSDNC, and the fake news, CNN and ABC, CBS and NBC, they’ll write whatever they say,” Trump said. “And what do you do to get rid of it? You convict Trump. It’s totally illegal what they do,” said Trump, who went on to call MSNBC and CNN "political arms of the Democratic Party." The man who complained endlessly about how Biden weaponized the DOJ against him (false) is intent on weaponizing the DOJ against his political enemies. Every. Single. Accusation. Is. A. Confession.
Ten Senate Democrats cave to avert government shutdown
In the end, Trump and the GOP got even more votes than they needed to pass a seven-month continuing resolution to fund the government that was drafted entirely without any Democratic input and was jam-packed with right-wing amendments, including the cedeing of Congress' authority to regulate Trump's tariffs and $13 billion in spending cuts. Ten Democrats — Durbin, Cortez Masto , Fetterman, Gillibrand, Hassan, Peters , Shaheen and Schatz — broke ranks and voted to keep the government open, to the delight of Trump and the GOP. "Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing!" posted Trump to Truth Social. "Schumer CAVED...Trump keeps winning!" crowed the House Judiciary Committee, while NBC's Salil Khapur reported that two GOP Senators told him "this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again — cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill and ...expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it. We liked it over here." Schumer was truly left with no good options; keeping the government open and the courts funded has been the only way to stymie Elon Musk from doing anything he wants, and Democrats don't even have the numbers to call a vote to reopen the government down the road — meaning that the GOP could keep the government shut down, devastating workers they don't care about and catering to Elons every whim for as long as they wanted while blaming Democrats for it the entire time. But it is a catastrophic failure in leadership that Schumer and the Democratic leaders promised to fight Trump and then dropped a surprise 11th-hour about-face on their own base.

Earthjustice throws a wrench into Trump’s illegal drilling plans
Earthjustice: President Trump’s attempt to open up millions of miles of ocean to offshore oil drilling is suddenly in serious jeopardy after Earthjustice filed a lawsuit to stop him, representing ten major environmental organizations including Oceana and Greenpeace. Earthjustice’s legal team is in the trenches, fighting behind the scenes to protect our clean air, our clean water, and our sustainable future — and they won’t stop fighting until Trump’s illegal attacks on our climate have been shut down for good. Will you chip in to support their battles against the Trump admin?
Dr. Oz dodges questions on Medicaid cuts at Senate confirmation hearing
The quack reality TV "doctor" and snake oil salesman predictably refused to give straight answers on easy yes-or-no questions like "do you believe in a nursing home there should be a registered nurse available around the clock" or whether or not he'd obey if the president gave him an unlawful order. But the big takeaway was his refusal to make any commitments to protecting Medicaid funding, making it clear that his willingness to gut the social safety net and replace it with an exploitative for-profit scam system — the kind that Dr. Oz is personally invested in — is why he was given the job in the first place. Republicans will undoubtedly vote to approve him anyway.
Pro-Israel group says it has "deportation list" and has sent "thousands" of names to Trump officials
Betar, a far-right Zionist supremacy group, has been providing the Trump administration with lists of pro-Palestinian protestors to arrest and deport for simply standing up for Palestinian human rights. As the Trump administration arrests a second pro-Palestinian protestor, Columbia begins revoking degrees of campus protestors, a Miami mayor attempts to shut down a movie theater for screening a documentary about Israel's war in Gaza, and Trump's DOJ announces plans to bring terrorism charges against peaceful protestors, it's clear that far-right Zionism has become a serious threat to American civil liberties and free speech, and its disciples are all too willing to defile institutions and restrict freedoms in order to prevent any criticism of Israel's human rights atrocities — and that Trump, the GOP, and an uncomfortable number of Democrats are more than happy to do their bidding.

Attorney General waves around block of fake fentanyl
In a bizarre and laughable display of performative bullshit, Attorney General Pam Bondi attempted to justify Donald Trump's appalling treatment of our Canadian neighbors by complaining about "fentanyl" coming in from Canada. To illustrate her point, she brought with her a table which displayed 180 "bricks" of fentanyl that she quickly admitted were fake. "On stage, we have — this is 180 kilograms, it represents — not real... of fentanyl," said Bondi. For the record, US authorities captured less than 20 kilos of fent coming through the Canadian border last year, as opposed to 9500 kilos through the Mexican border, which are largely trafficked by American citizens. But who cares about facts when you're doing community theater skits on behalf of a fascist strongman nursing an inexplicable grudge against CANADA of all places.
Judges threatened with impeachment, bombs for ruling against Trump agenda
The sister of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett received a bomb threat earlier this month, and lower court judges who hit pause on some of President Trump's efforts to dismantle federal agencies and programs have been singled out on social media. Republican lawmakers close to the president even have proposed impeachment proceedings against a few of those judges, who serve for life. Our judiciary is under sustained attack from both the politicians in the Republican Party and from its voters, egged on by an increasingly tyrannical Elon Musk and his personal echo chamber.

Elon Musk exposed in plot to rewrite corporate law to pad his wallet
Stop SB21: A Delaware judge blocked the outrageous $56 BILLION pay package that Elon tried to give himself — and now Elon is out for revenge. Musk's own attorneys wrote a piece of legislation, SB 21, that would create convenient carve-outs that would allow him and his billionaire cronies to essentially steal from the companies they control. Delaware Senate Democrats passed the bill despite this flagrant power grab, but the House still needs to vote next week. Will you stand for yet another instance of this unelected billionaire trying to buy his way into power?
Rubio says South Africa’s ambassador no longer welcome in US after criticizing Trump
The foreign policy of the United States is now dictated entirely by the need to protect Donald Trump's fragile, insecure ego.
