Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the Office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. | On Tuesday, Speaker Johnson and nearly all House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government funded. Sadly, all but one Democrat voted in support of a government shutdown, which hurts our federal workers, TSA agents, and service members. Following the vote, Speaker Johnson said, "For years, House Democrats have railed against government shutdowns, but they suddenly changed their tune when President Trump returned to office. Their falsehoods and misinformation campaigns are a desperate attempt to distract from their own failures." Click here to watch Speaker Johnson's remarks following the passage of the CR. | Despite rampant, Democrat-led misinformation, Tuesday's continuing resolution (CR) does not include any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or veterans’ benefits. Though Democrats failed to join Republicans in responsibly keeping the government open, House Republicans successfully delivered for the American people. Speaker Johnson spoke about the longstanding, peaceful relationship between the United States and Ireland. During the luncheon, the famous Riverdance Irish Dance troupe provided music and dance entertainment.
