Progress With TikTok!Â
TikTok reached out to NCOSE to share some new safety improvements they will soon be making to their app. These include:Â Â
👉Expanded Family Visibility:
Parents will have the ability to see who their teen is following, who follows them, and which accounts their teen has blocked.Â
👉Alerting Parents About Violations:
In the coming months, when a teen reports a video, they can choose to notify a parent or trusted adult at the same time. This feature is designed to encourage open conversations between teens and their families about their TikTok experience.Â
👉
Time Away Feature:
There will be a new feature that allows parents to block access to TikTok during family time, weekends, school hours, or other timings. Parents can now set schedules and decide when their teen will take a break from the app. If plans change, teens can request extra time, but parents make the final decision.
While these changes do not solve for every danger children may encounter on TikTok, we celebrate these incremental steps towards safety!Â

Why Discord is On the Dirty Dozen List 4 Years in a Row
Caroline’s (pseudonym) parents were startled when a strange man showed up on their doorstep one day
, asking to see their 12-year-old daughter.
They soon discovered this was not by accident. This 20-year-old man is being accused of grooming Caroline for months on the Internet, sending her graphic sexual images and then coercing her to do the same. After chatting online for a while, they decided to meet in person. It was then that he appeared at their front door.
The parents quickly uncovered what had been going on and reported it to the police. But they kept wondering how she came in contact with this man.
And how were they able to trade such sexually explicit content back and forth with no repercussions from the online platform?
That’s because the platform they were chatting on,Â
Discord
, is notorious for its inadequate safety measures that has led it to become a hotbed for this exploitative behavior.
