They Cannot Silence Our Movement Dear Email, The arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and lawful permanent resident of the U.S., along with the government's escalating crackdown on universities, organizations, and activists speaking out against American complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza, is a blatant act of retaliation. It reflects the desperation of those behind and inciting this repression. Mahmoud’s arrest—carried out under an outdated Cold War-era law—is both unjust and unlawful. Even more alarming is President Trump’s declaration that this is just the beginning, signaling a broader crackdown, with two more students targeted today. His administration’s targeting of American colleges—under the pretext of failing to address allegations of “Anti-Semitism”—confirms that we are entering an increasingly dangerous and repressive period. The growing repression of the Palestine solidarity movement is a reaction to our increasing success. The government and Zionist lobby are scrambling to suppress us because they cannot engage our movement on its merits. Our movement has gained momentum across college campuses, in city councils passing divestment resolutions, and through massive demonstrations filling the streets of America. Their response—attempting to silence and suppress dissent—exposes their fear of this seismic shift in public opinion against Israel and support of Palestinian rights. This is not a time for despair. This is not a time for fear. The Palestinian people in Gaza continue to exemplify legendary resilience and steadfastness in the face of Israel’s brutality and genocide. Despite unimaginable suffering, they remain unyielding. We must embody the same courage and commitment. The government's assault on constitutional rights and civil liberties, alongside the Zionist lobby’s efforts to silence dissent, should fuel our resolve rather than weaken it. These attempts at intimidation and repression must only strengthen our determination. This fight is about the kind of America we want. Will we live in a democratic nation that upholds its values, constitution, and laws? Or will we allow it to be reshaped into an authoritarian state that suppresses dissent and silences justice? The answer depends on our willingness to resist. On this blessed Friday, as we reach the halfway point of Ramadan, we invite you to recommit and join us in elevating this work to new heights. More than 1,400 years ago, during this sacred month, the Noble Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). His mission was noble yet challenging—one that required perseverance, struggle, and sacrifice. He remained steadfast until Allah granted him victory. Today, in this blessed month of Ramadan, it is our duty to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), standing firm in our commitment to justice, resilience, and unwavering faith. |
