Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, Last week I reintroduced my bipartisan, bicameral Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act. This bill will finally hold China accountable for decades of evading U.S. trade laws through transshipment, duty evasion, and forced labor. The CCP’s illicit trade practices are deliberately designed to take advantage of American workers and domestic industry—undercutting American wages and gutting rural manufacturing towns that once thrived with good-paying jobs. Despite the sheer volume of trade crime-related cases, the Department of Justice remains inadequately equipped to detect, investigate, and prosecute such offenses effectively. Click here to read my interview with Fox News. Tariffs are a powerful tool in our arsenal, but they must be backed by strong enforcement of our trade laws to stop China from ripping us off. This legislation will support the Trump Administration’s efforts to stop these blatant violations and ensure penalties are meaningfully enforced. American workers have felt pain for decades because of Communist China’s malfeasance – now it’s time for Communist China to feel some pain. The message from the Trump Administration is clear: the days of taking advantage of the US are over, and the golden age of American manufacturing is coming back. This is a bipartisan opportunity to support American industry, reshore domestic manufacturing, and champion American workers – and I hope we can deliver on this for all Iowans and Americans. Best, My Visits to Hardin, Tama, and Benton Counties I loved visiting Grandma Jane’s Playhouse! It’s such a joy to see kids just being kids—learning, making new friends, and building valuable social skills. I'm so thankful to their dedicated team for making this possible and providing a variety of educational opportunities for Iowa families! It was a pleasure meeting with officers from five different police departments to discuss public safety concerns in Tama County. Ensuring our law enforcement officers have the tools to do their job will always be a priority for me and I appreciate their sacrifice and service to our community. I had a great meeting with the owner of Benton County Brewing Company—which he bought with his family after previously serving overseas in Iraq. I appreciated the tour, and I can't wait to make it back and try some local brews! We also discussed the importance of building the local workforce and keeping small business tax cuts permanent. I'll always continue advocating for Iowa businesses just like his! Welcoming Iowans to D.C. I had a valuable discussion with the Livestock Marketing Association about ways to continue advocating for Iowa’s livestock farmers. I remain committed to reversing the harmful effects of regulatory barriers on Iowa farmers and supporting our rural communities! It was also wonderful to meet with the Iowa Association of Councils of Governments. Local leaders play a key role in strengthening our communities, and I’m thankful for their partnership as we work toward shared goals and deliver for Iowans. In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I continued my 22 County Tour traveling through Hardin, Tama, and Benton Counties on Thursday. I called out House Democrats for copy and pasting the same talking points and having no authentic message for Americans. I voted to keep the government open, allowing us to move forward with President Trump's America First agenda of reigning in out-of-control federal spending. I thanked Vice President Vance for joining our House Republican Conference meeting to discuss government funding. I voted to ensure Americans' safety and support Border Patrol agents by surging resources to secure our borders. I also voted for additional surveillance over tunnels manipulated by drug cartels so we can end this malpractice once and for all. I applauded the overhaul of Biden’s deceptive CBP One app to fast track self-deportations and put Americans first. I called out Ranking Member DeLauro and Democrats for lying and spreading misinformation about the government funding package. I thanked Secretary Rollins for rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse at the USDA. I celebrated International Women's Day!
