Elon Musk and the MAGA movement continue to attack the judiciary, ringing alarm bells for judges and the fate of our democracy:
Musk has been calling for the impeachment of judges who rule against the Trump administration for weeks, and far-right Republicans in Congress are trying to deliver. Already, right-wing lawmakers have filed four impeachment resolutions against three judges so far this year.
According to the Federal Judicial Center, only 15 judges have faced impeachment since 1803, the last in 2010 on charges of accepting bribes and making false statements under penalty of perjury.
Two federal judges have spoken out against Trump and Republicans’ attempts to short-circuit the process by getting rid of judges simply for not ruling in the far-right’s favor. It doesn’t just threaten federal judges’ careers, but our government’s separation of powers as we know it.
