The CFT Convention is underway in San Diego
The 2025 CFT Convention is now underway in San Diego with over 400 delegates and guests gathered to do the business of the union. The theme of this year’s Convention is Union Power for All.
In his welcome letter to delegates, CFT President Jeff Freitas wrote, “The last two months have been a whirlwind that has filled many of us with a sense of anger and anxiety. While the world around us can often be confusing, there is one thing that brings me a sense of perspective and hope: the power in our union.”

Trump administration fires half of the department of education
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump followed through on his Project 2025 plans, firing half of the staff of the Department of Education and eviscerating the department’s ability to function.
“Gutting the Department of Education’s workforce will have a devastating impact on our most vulnerable students,” said CFT President Jeff Freitas in a statement picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle. “Their futures are being cut short by this reckless and illegal action by the Trump Administration. The American people did not vote for chaotic and vicious attacks on our children and public schools.”
This is unacceptable, and we will continue to fight back. You can take action now by writing to your members of Congress and telling them: No cuts to education!
