I voted ‘NO’ on the Republican continuing resolution or ‘CR.’

This bill is a disaster cooked up by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. This isn’t a clean bill to keep the government open – far from it.

It slashes funding for NIH research into cancer, diabetes and other health conditions.
It cuts funding for critical programs to support veterans getting health care and housing.
It guts funding for the prevention of violence against women.

And importantly, it does nothing to put Elon Musk and Donald Trump in check. In fact, it codifies a lot of the attacks Musk and Trump have waged on federal workers and programs.

Let me be very clear: Republicans are pushing us toward a government shutdown while they control the White House, the House, and the Senate. That’s never happened in the history of our country.

They could have worked with Democrats to put forward a clean bill to keep the government open – which is what Democrats are currently pushing for. But instead, Republicans decided to push another partisan bill to hurt working families.

For all those reasons and more, I voted NO – and I hope my colleagues in the Senate do the same.
