Born without hands or feet, Grace hasn’t let her limb difference limit her. When she was only 4 days old, a pediatric nephrologist broke the news: Grace had multicystic dysplastic kidneys and was in stage four renal failure. With only 10% kidney function, doctors gave Grace a 50/50 chance of living until her first birthday.
But something inside Grace wasn’t ready to give up. “Her tenacity and grit are unparalleled,” said her dad, Stephen. Grace’s parents did everything they could to get her strong, healthy and big enough for a kidney transplant — a more difficult task than it might seem. At 1-year-old, Grace weighed just 15 lbs.
Finally—just after her second birthday—Grace underwent a kidney transplant. She immediately started to improve, and there’s been no stopping her since. Her wish was for an adaptive ski experience on the powdery slopes of Colorado — inspired by past family trips, only this time EVERYONE got to participate, thanks to adaptive ski equipment made just for Grace! |
