This past week has been tough for our nation. As Americans we are trying to process a series of tragedies that have shaken our country to it’s core.
This week we surpassed 100,000 Americans who have lost their lives to COVID-19. The pandemic has touched every corner of America and has impacted the most vulnerable among us. Each person lost was a parent, sibling, loved one, or neighbor. Their loss will be felt long after this crisis. Now more than ever it is important that we take the responsibility of stopping the spread on ourselves to make sure that we are keeping our community, families, and those going back to work safe.
As a nation we are also mourning the tragic killing of George Floyd. As I watched the video of his death I was shaken to my core by the utter lack of compassion and indifference for human life that was displayed by the police officers involved. No American should be deprived of their right to life, liberty and happiness in that manner. I truly hope that justice is served, that George Floyd’s family and others in the community can somehow find peace during this time of unimaginable grief, and that our country can begin to heal.
As we are handling different crises, we must remember that, as Americans, there is hope in working together to build up our community. We must look out for one another, learn from others and work towards building a better, more perfect union. That is the goodness and spirit of the American people.
Below is an update on what our campaign has been up to over the past week.
39th District Pitching In
This week I joined Calvary Chapel La Habra's relief efforts, delivering bags of essential items to the members of our communities in need. I am so proud to be a part of this caring community.
Town Hall For this week in our town hall series, I was joined by Placentia Mayor Ward Smith and Councilmember Rhonda Shader. They give us an update on how Placentia is dealing with COVID-19, what aid the city is providing individuals, residents and businesses and how the city is moving forward to reopen.
39th District Re-opening LA County is on the road to reopening! Check out what’s opening below. Remember to follow public health guidelines, practice social distancing, and wear a mask when you are in public to stop the spread! Click here for more information on updates about LA County.
Hair Salons and barbershops, as well as retail stores and dine-in service at restaurants, have been given the green light in Orange County and San Bernardino County.
Many Californians rely on these places being open for work, bringing us one step closer towards full reopening.
COVID-19 Resources

As a reminder, please check out our COVID-19 Resource Page for updated information, and join us for our PPE Drive if you are able. We are collecting PPE or food to help our first responders, healthcare workers, essential workers, and anyone fighting on the front lines.
Volunteer on Our Campaign During this national health crisis, we have made major changes to our campaign. Our volunteer efforts are now completely online. This allows volunteers to continue to help from their homes. You can sign up to volunteer by contacting Field Director, Taylor Zanazzi at [email protected].
As always, please stay safe and healthy. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. We thank the essential workers and public servants who have worked tirelessly to protect us and move our country forward. Let's continue to do our part and remember to wear a face covering when in public, to protect our community and loved ones. We will come out of this crisis stronger and more united than ever.
