Egale Canada will not engage in-person at the upcoming Commission on the Status of Women or any other global convenings in the United States in the foreseeable future
As a regular attendee of the Commission on the Status of Women < [link removed] > , held this year at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, we had looked forward to engaging in essential conversations relevant to 2SLGBTQI inclusion on a national and global level.
After deep consideration, we have decided not to engage in-person this year or in any other UN, OAS, or global convenings, including World Pride, in the United States in the foreseeable future.
This decision is foremost based on the need to safeguard our trans and non-binary staff who would face questionable treatment at land and aviation borders to attend such convenings and to stand in solidarity with global colleagues who are experiencing similar fear around entry to the U.S.
We will continue to work with civil society and government colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved in these global spaces and continue to find ways to support our international partners during these trying times.

Legal Action Update: The new Government of New Brunswick’s Changes to Policy 713
With the new Government of New Brunswick having reversed the most harmful elements of the changes to Policy 713, co-intervenors Egale Canada, Alter Acadie, Chroma NB, and Imprint Youth have consented to the discontinuance of litigation.
With anti-2SLGBTQI hate continuing to rise across Canada and around the world, implementing inclusive education policies that foster affirming school environments for trans and gender diverse students is more critical than ever. These developments in New Brunswick show that by advocating together, we can create safe schools where every young person feels affirmed and free to be themselves.
