Winter Event

The National Weather Service has forecast significant snowfall for the Ann Arbor area beginning the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 12, through the morning of Thursday, Feb. 13, followed by another round of snow on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025.

What the city is doing

City crews will be working around the clock to plow and treat roads beginning with major street routes. As the storm ends, city crews and contractors will move into residential neighborhoods. In addition, the city will be deploying resources to clear sidewalks adjacent to city property, mid-block crossings around town and sidewalk ramps within the downtown areas (DDA).

The City of Ann Arbor's winter goal is to provide road surfaces that are safe to use at reasonable speeds. The city is mindful of the environmental impact of overuse of salt and therefore does not treat all roads to bare pavement.

What the city is asking of the community

To give crews the opportunity to move snow more quickly, making it easier for essential services to attend to streets, the city is asking all who are able to voluntarily move their cars from on-street parking.

As the storm progresses, please visit city social media channels for updates as they become available. You can also share this email with friends and family so that they can sign up for alerts like this.

To follow city snowplows in real time, visit the snowplow map, which breaks down which streets are being plowed, what is completed and which streets are next.

Business and residential property owners also have responsibility to treat and remove snow from sidewalks, crosswalk ramps and concrete bus stops.

In the future

This would be the type of snowstorm an on-street snow parking ban might be called. Recently, Ann Arbor City Council updated the on-street snow parking ordinance to make it easier to understand, follow and enforce such a ban. To be clear, a ban will not be called for this set of storms.

The city does not anticipate recommending such a ban for snow removal this winter prior to any public education or outreach and would do so only in the most extraordinary circumstances.
