TRENTON, NJ : Following a report in Politico detailing Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Spadea’s nefarious fundraising efforts to take advantage of seniors around the country, Leroy J. Jones Jr., Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, today blasted Spadea and called upon him to discontinue preying on our most vulnerable and return the money.
The Politico report also noted that this fundraising practice is employed by other candidates across the country and was reported on extensively by the New York Times four years ago, which would seem to suggest that Spadea knew exactly what he was doing.
“As the Democratic State Chair, I am more than happy to watch from afar as the Republican candidates for governor demean themselves and savage each other in their race to the bottom to pledge fealty to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement,” said Jones. “However, we need to draw the line when we see seniors on fixed incomes around the country being purposefully taken advantage of for financial gain. Radio host Bill Spadea showed long ago that there is no limit to what he will say and do for his own personal gain and now candidate Spadea is showing the field that he is most like Trump in at least one area, removing people from their savings.”
Jones continued, “Bill Spadea has a long history of endangering people with lies about the 2020 election so I suppose it was Common Sense to think exposing seniors to a Trump-style grift would be next on the agenda. While the boundaries of acceptable behavior continue to be pushed to the point of incomprehension, the decent thing for Bill Spadea to do would be to discontinue this disingenuous fundraising practice and immediately return the money to all of the individuals that were preyed upon.
