Loss of Primary Rainforests Remains High, But Some Countries Offer Hope 

In 2019, the tropics lost 11.9 million hectares of tree cover. Nearly a third were primary forests—the equivalent of losing one football pitch of primary forest every 6 seconds. Bright spots: Colombia, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire had notable declines in primary forest loss. How to Reduce Plastic and Other Ocean Pollution 

Each year, up to 13 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean, the equivalent of one garbage truck of waste every minute. A new Blue Paper commissioned by the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy highlights seven solutions to cut plastic and other types of ocean pollution. Number 1: Improve wastewater management for for the 3 billion people who lack access to controlled waste disposal facilities. Read More.

Cyclones and COVID

STATEMENT: COP26 Delayed Until November 2021 

The COP26 climate summit has been rescheduled to November 1-12, 2021, one year later than originally planned, due to the coronavirus pandemic. President & CEO Andrew Steer said: “Shifting the date of COP26 is understandable, but there can be no let-up in tackling the climate crisis. Just as we have witnessed extraordinary determination and courage in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need a similar commitment to avoid a climate catastrophe.” Read More.
