John, you’ve heard plenty from us about our campaign to Fire Elon Musk. I know we’ve been reaching out a lot – but every day our leaders fail to act is another day that this self-serving billionaire can use his unchecked power to hurt the American people.
No one elected Elon – but he’s become the face of the new administration’s most reckless, anti-democracy actions – and its most egregious political failures.
And today, I’m writing to give you a behind-the-scenes look at this campaign and share why I believe we can win. And it all comes down to one number: 36 percent.
That’s Elon Musk’s approval rating right now – compared to 52% who disapprove. It used to be much higher when he was all about electric cars and going to space. [1]
But ever since his far-right turn, the public has begun to see him for who he truly is: a self-serving billionaire who does not care about what’s best for We The People.
And now, with Donald Trump giving him free rein to slash critical federal programs, pressure civil servants into resigning, and attempt to shut down life changing agencies like the Department of Education, Americans across the political spectrum are simply fed up.
That’s where you come in, John. These numbers mean that there are literally millions of people who may have voted for President Trump but aren’t impressed with Elon – you might even know some of them yourself.
We also know how Trump operates — he hates to be embarrassed and hates to lose. And one of Elon’s first acts as “Special Government Employee” was a disastrous freeze on federal aid spending – so bad that Trump was forced to roll it back after people like you spoke up.
Trump ran his first administration like the reality show he’s famous for – he loves firing people. That means it’s only a matter of time before the President decides Elon Musk is dragging him down and votes Musk off the island.
With your help, we'll do all we can to speed up our full-scale advocacy, lobbying, and public messaging campaign. In the coming weeks, expect to see a full-court press – from social media campaigning to old-school newspaper ads. We won’t rest until every voter knows exactly who these cuts are hurting – in red, blue, and purple states alike.
John, I’m sharing our strategy in detail because frankly, we can’t get it done without your buy-in and support. Common Cause members like you power everything we do – so if you agree that our campaign to Fire Elon Musk is the right priority in the right moment, I hope you’ll help us make it a success.
Together, I know we can accomplish extraordinary things. Can you chip in $3 right now to help fund our campaign to DEMAND Trump fire Elon Musk?
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
