Robert Kennedy Jr. is nominated to be Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Senate will vote on his confirmation very soon. He is entirely unqualified for this vital position. The Secular Coalition does not support government policies or legislation which promote or are based on religious beliefs. Instead we believe in government policies and legislation that are based in evidence and science. Most of Mr. Kennedy’s career in healthcare has been dedicated to policies free of science and evidence.
This nomination ignores any interest in experience, qualifications, or understanding of health science for someone who would run HHS and oversee its $1.8 trillion budget. Use our Action Alert to tell your Senators to vote No.
Mr. Kennedy has made a career out of spreading misinformation about the supposed ill effects of vaccinations despite being wrong on the science. His organization, Children’s Health Defense, has promoted the harmful belief that vaccinations cause childhood autism in the face of strong scientific consensus to the contrary. His decades-long views on vaccines are a direct threat to the public health he would be in charge of. His recent "conversion" on the matter since being nominated for this job doesn't meet the credulity test.
There are many other areas where Kennedy's beliefs conflict with medical science. He is just not qualified to run the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes the Food and Drug Administration, Medicare, Medicaid, and many other agencies. Tell your Senators to 'first, do no harm" by voting against Kennedy so the Senate can move on to the nomination of someone else who would have to be more qualified for the position. Please use this Action Alert to let your Senators know.
