Columbia. Two anti-Israel groups in New York City

held an off-campus lecture discussing the methods and lessons of the First Intifada, organized by the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) group and the Palestinian Youth Movement. The event, which took place at the People’s Forum, faced backlash from pro-Israel figures, including Congressman Ritchie Torres, who called for its cancellation. Columbia University condemned the event, stating that CUAD was not recognized by the institution and rejecting materials that glorify violence. ADL’s NY/NJ region publicly praised

Columbia’s response, "for swiftly condemning an event promoting terror… and for making it clear that this group is unsanctioned.”

United Nations. In an episode that is both startling and not at all surprising, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education

Farida Shaheed claimed that “I do not know antisemitism is actually on the rise.” She said this during a meeting with students from around the world when asked whether she plans to write any reports about antisemitism. She added that “nobody has written to me to say, ‘this is what happened here.’” So, allow ADL to be the first to share the news.

Here is a recent report from ADL, Hillel International and College Pulse that shows that 83 percent of Jewish college students have experienced or witnessed some form of antisemitism since the 10/7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

Michigan. The University of Michigan School of Public Health hosted Israeli physician Dr. Nadav Davidovitch on February 6 for a seminar on the polio outbreak and public health issues in Gaza, despite efforts to cancel the event. More than 200 students, staff and alumni

signed a petition demanding the university rescind his invitation, but administrators allowed space for concerns while proceeding with the seminar. Over a dozen anti-Israel protesters showed up at the venue, accusing the university of legitimizing “apartheid” and “genocide.” Dr. Davidovitch addressed the disruption of Gaza’s polio vaccination efforts due to the war, criticized Hamas, and acknowledged the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system. The event proceeded without interruption, but anti-Israel activists condemned the university for providing a platform to an Israeli speaker.

UC Berkeley. An Israeli microbiology researcher at the University of California, Berkeley has filed a

federal lawsuit alleging that the United Auto Workers union participated in antisemitic discrimination. Postdoc researcher Karin Yaniv claims that the union violated both Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act; her

lawsuit spells out numerous problematic incidents showing that the union had become openly hostile toward pro-Israel union members. As her legal counsel at the Fairness Center explained: “She believes the union violated its own rules by treating her as a second-class member and empowering other union members to harass Israeli Jews.”

(UK) Birmingham. Students and staff at the University of Birmingham (UoB) in the UK are staging

weekly anti-Israel walkouts to protest the university’s investment ties to Israel. Among other things, the protestors are demanding an end to research partnerships with companies linked to Israel. The protests, backed by 11 student societies, follow a student guild motion where 1,172 students voted in favor of urging action on divestment. The demonstrations have sparked debates over academic freedom, while university officials have defended their policies. A UoB spokesperson said “We are committed to maintaining high environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards across our investment portfolios. The University is a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible
Investment, incorporating ESG factors in our investments.”

ABCs of BDS. The Alliance for Academic Freedom has released a

comprehensive takedown of boycott and divestment campaigns, highlighting their damaging effects on academic freedom and financial responsibility. Their report, authored by leading scholars, pushes back against the anti-Zionist rhetoric that fueled campus encampments and continues to drive divestment resolutions. The authors argue that academic boycotts restrict intellectual collaboration, punish individual students and faculty and violate principles of free inquiry. They also expose the flaws in divestment efforts, which they say amount to symbolic gestures with no real economic impact. It’s an important and thorough breakdown to remember as universities face mounting pressure to cut
ties with Israel.

parent summit in the D.C. area to equip families with strategies to combat antisemitism in schools. Sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, the event featured expert panels and school leaders addressing challenges Jewish students face, including bias and isolation. Speakers stressed the importance of proactive parental advocacy, relationship-building with school officials and utilizing legal and organizational tools to combat discrimination. The summit provided parents with essential resources and a strong support network, ensuring they can work toward safer school environments for their children. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt posted being

dairy proteins in potatoes, which are far more efficient to raise. The super spuds, which are slated to start their first field test shortly in Israel, could revolutionize dairy production, mashing some of dairy’s climate and food security challenges.

Ancient Etchings. A new study analyzing

prehistoric artifacts from Israel’s Qafzeh, Manot, Quneitra and Amud caves suggests that early humans demonstrated artistic expression over 100,000 years ago —far earlier than previously believed. Researchers found intentional engravings on stone tools, with patterns confirming deliberate design rather than random markings. These findings challenge the Eurocentric timeline that placed symbolic behavior at just 50,000 years ago, showcasing the artistic and cognitive abilities of early humans in the Middle Paleolithic era.
