John,
With the inauguration a few weeks behind us, the writing is on the wall when it comes to reproductive freedom.
Despite the intentional chaos of the moment, our team has been carefully tracking the administration’s movements on reproductive rights, all while supporting the state and local electeds fighting back at every turn.
The administration has already taken drastic action against reproductive freedom, signaling even greater threats to come:
-
On inauguration day, the Trump team immediately dismantled ‘reproductiverights.gov,’ a site dedicated to providing resources and information around all aspects of reproductive healthcare, including contraception.
- Trump pardoned ten anti-abortion extremists who led a violent takeover of a clinic in 2020, injuring at least one nurse and blocking pregnant patients from care.
- Trump’s Justice Department announced that they will stop enforcing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances, or FACE Act, which protects doctors and patients from violence and harassment.
- Trump reinstated the global gag rule, defunding critical organizations abroad for even sharing information about abortion.
- Robert F. Kennedy’s confirmation to lead the Department of Health and Human Services looks all but certain, after he repeatedly pledged to enforce Trump’s abortion policies, no matter how extreme, abandoning his earlier “pro-choice” stances.
There’s no denying what we’re up against or what’s coming down the pike.
But as recently as last month, polling has shown that a majority of Trump voters do not believe that he will try to restrict abortion as president.
That means we need to be loud and clear about what’s happening TODAY. By the time these attacks break through the news cycle with a big shiny headline, it will be too late to prepare. We’re doing the work now.
Your support helps us reach and engage more voters—work that must happen year-round, not just in the fall of even-numbered years.
So thank you for being with us; we couldn’t do this work without you.
In solidarity,
Sara Tabatabaie
