Standing in Solidarity

*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*

Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council

Tonight we will light the Council House and Wollaton Hall purple as a mark of respect for George Floyd whose death at the hands of American police has rightly ignited anger across the world and to symbolise our solidarity against all forms of racism, hate and prejudice wherever they occur. We know that Nottingham is a place where people from different backgrounds get along well together but we know that racism and prejudice are not just issues in America, they are issues in our country as well. Tonight, a number of Nottingham City councillors will stand together outside the Council House and stand against all forms of prejudice.

On Saturday, the Government announced a number of changes that came into force this week, including changes to shielding measures. Shielding measures remain in place until 30th June, but people can start to spend time outdoors if they choose to but please be assured that council services are still available to support vulnerable people. If you are a Nottingham City Council resident who is self-isolating and do not have anyone that can help or support you, we are here to help. Please call our Customer Hub on 0115 915 5555 or visit our website for more information at [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

People across the city are allowed to spend as much time as they want outdoors on their own or with other members of their household, not just exercising but sitting and enjoying the fresh air. However, playgrounds remain closed in accordance with Government guidance as coronavirus could remain on surfaces and spread to others.

I know people in Nottingham have remained vigilant throughout the last ten weeks but I urge everyone to continue to proceed with caution and to continue with social distancing to stop a second wave of the virus in Nottingham. Please do stay two metres apart from people outside of your immediate household, avoid busy areas and continue with regular hand washing. *Do you know a Nottingham Star? *

Nottingham Star

To mark Volunteers Week, in partnership with Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service (NCVS), weve launched the Nottingham Star campaign. The campaign has been designed to shine a spotlight on the kindness and generosity which individuals and groups have shown to people during the pandemic and give those that have been supported the chance to say thank you.
