John,
Climate action and net zero are quickly becoming battlegrounds for the far-right to play out their agenda.
They are preying on people's very real frustrations as a result of a decade and a half of government cuts and communities reeling from devastating impacts of the climate crisis.
Green MP Carla Denyer said that 'the global far-right are weaponsing net zero - and we'll all suffer', adding that:
'If the government wants to counter the rise of the far-right and – bluntly – to still be in government in 5 years’ time, then they need to focus on delivering policies that make people’s lives better, now.'
As Greens we know that tackling the far-right threat means not allowing far-right politicians to capitalise on people's fears and anxieties to prevent the kind of action that we need to secure a liveable future.
It means pushing the government to acknowledge that raising living standards and climate action are two sides of the same coin.
John, are you with us?
