From gag orders to subpoena deadlines, Trump’s strategy is clear: ignore the courts and act as if he’s above the law. Why not? The Supreme Court recently signaled he was. Yet with a Republican Party and Congress too afraid to challenge him, it’s up to the courts—and us, the public—to hold him accountable.

His growing defiance of the courts is leading us to a constitutional crisis, a dangerous precedent that threatens the very foundation of our democracy. If Trump is allowed to get away with ignoring legal authority, what does that mean for our system of checks and balances? Will he ignore Supreme Court rulings? Will he toss aside constitutional provisions he doesn’t like, starting with birthright citizenship, and leading to … presidential term limits?
