I’ve had a lot of conversations with Iowa Democrats recently about the Trump Administration’s first three weeks. Iowa Democrats are frustrated, afraid, and angry at the long-term damage the Trump Administration is inflicting.
I am sharing with you the work IDP has already begun to do and what to expect over the next couple of months. If you want to support our fight ahead, will you pitch in $25 now? [[link removed]]

Here’s our plan:
1. Pick the right battles. It bears repeating - Trump wants us to swing at every pitch and respond to every outrage. If we make everything an emergency, nothing will be an emergency. Therefore, we will focus on the IMPACT of the actions of Iowa Republicans and do our best to avoid getting caught in academic, abstract or theoretical arguments.
2. Keep the pressure on Republicans and hold them accountable in earned media and organic content. Democrats rightly want to confront their members of Congress. Through our various messaging channels, we will provide guidance on what to ask members of Congress and legislators about, and create a record of the answers to hold Republicans accountable.
3. Collect and tell stories on the IMPACT of what is happening. Cuts to cancer research. A declining agricultural economy. Money being sucked out of public schools. Rights being taken away. These all have impacts on regular people. We need to tell the stories of how what is going on in Des Moines and DC affects them.
4. Organize in counties. The odd-year caucuses and county party re-organizations should be about planning, organizing, and growing the party. This is a great place for local folks who want to get more people involved in turning this state around. We’ve provided guidance to and will keep working with our county parties to use these meetings as an entry point for the folks looking for ways to get involved.
5. Roll out more training, programming, and accountability work as the year goes on. We have plans to launch a spring and summer organizing program, hold regular VAN trainings, build out a Democratic county elected officials organization, and so forth.
There’s no question that there’s a lot of work to do, and I’m sure more tough conversations lie ahead. But our job at IDP is to lead — not act impulsively or give in to Trump’s games.
I’m personally reaching out today to ask you to chip in $25 or whatever you can to fuel the Iowa Democratic Party’s agenda so we can change the direction of our state and country. Are you in? [[link removed]]
