With these simultaneous crises gripping the nation, 60 members of Congress―including both Republicans and some of Wall Street's favorite Democrats―released a letter letter in support of creating closed-door commissions to cut Social Security and Medicare.
This deficit demagoguery is a smokescreen to achieve the long-held right-wing goal of destroying our Social Security and Medicare systems. The only crisis is that the rich won’t pay their fair share. We’re fighting back. Chip in $7 today!
This letter pushes the TRUST Act, a Mitt Romney brainchild that would create closed-door, fast-track commissions to circumvent public opinion and force cuts to our earned benefits. The Democrats who support this odious legislation are being used―and we’re letting them know it.
The last thing we need is more autocrats in DC trampling the will of the people―who overwhelmingly want these programs expanded.
Congress should be using their power to act on behalf of the people, not shield themselves from repercussions when they act in defiance of public sentiment.
There are emergencies that demand Congressional action now, from fasicsm in the White House to the still-raging pandemic.
