Saturday, as my boys and I huddled around to watch the SpaceX NASA launch, my heart hurt.
To see our American ingenuity, our will to work together on display was stunning, but it gave me pause.
When will we show the same will to heal our communities, our people and end the cruel and deadly injustices that plague our country?
As we demand justice for George, Ahmaud and far too many others, we must also demand change in their names.
We must demand leadership that will unite us and serve every American equally with compassion and the promise of the American Dream.
While racial disparities persist in wealth, education, housing and health care, we must never lose hope. These injustices, and those within our criminal justice system, were created by racist, divisive policies, and with work and courage, they can be undone.
The pain in our country must be put to purpose, and we must do it together.
